Today I ran across this excellent video update from Singing Success called “Staying On Key”. How perfect of a title is that! Who doesn’t want to stay on key, right? Singers that have not been trained to hear and recognize pitch frequencies can have trouble understanding intonation – the variations of pitch and tone that distinguish notes. This idea of intonation is especially important when having to sing a capella (no instrumental accompaniment). When a singer cannot determine the intonation of subsequent notes after the root note has been played (root note = whatever key you are singing in), there is an increased chance that the singer will begin to swerve off the original key as the song progresses. Brett Manning has done a video update with Singing Success to offer advice on how to stay on key throughout the whole a capella process by sticking to the root note throughout the entire process. Check out the video below – it is very, very helpful!
Enjoy!
